JR regional passes: prices, and when one beats single tickets
Japan's regional JR passes cost ¥2,700 to ¥50,000 for one person, against ¥50,000 for the 7 day Japan Rail Pass[26]. On 13 of the 15 trips below (each the issuer's own example or the pass's longest trip), the pass costs less than single tickets, with fares checked on 19 October 2026. The JR EAST PASS replaced the two JR East area passes on 14 March 2026[2].

All days are consecutive. Where prices differ, the lower one is the issuer's online or before-arrival price. JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area): Sales ended on 13 March 2026 and the JR EAST PASS took its place[2]. JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area): Sales ended on 13 March 2026 and the JR EAST PASS took its place[2].

Single fares are station prices for one person, fare plus limited express charge for an ordinary reserved seat, read for Tuesday 20 October 2026 (regular season), from 10:00 unless noted. Legs are separate tickets; a through ticket over the same route can cost less. The pass is compared at its shortest length; a trip spread over more days needs a longer pass. Fares that could not be read are left out, so those totals are "at least".
