Kansai Area Pass: price, what it covers, and whether it pays
The Kansai Area Pass costs ¥2,700 for 1 day, one person, checked on 19 October 2026. Rapid and local JR trains around Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nara plus the Haruka: 2,700 yen for 1 day to 6,700 yen for 4 days, one person, now only as a WEST QR ticket. The paper pass stopped selling on 30 September 2026. On the longest trip it covers (Kansai Airport to Kyoto, Kyoto to Nara, Nara to Osaka, Osaka to Kansai Airport), single tickets come to ¥8,060, so the 4 day pass saves ¥1,360.

What the Kansai Area Pass covers
- JR West lines around Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, Himeji, Wakayama and Otsu, and Kansai Airport.
- No Shinkansen.
- Limited express trains: Haruka (the only limited express).
- Reserved seat on the Haruka twice; otherwise rapid and local trains.
- Paper Kansai Area Pass sales ended 30 September 2026; the WEST QR version stays, with prices from 19 December 2025.
- Now: QR version only (paper pass sales ended 30 September 2026).

How the sums are made
Single fares are station prices for one person, fare plus limited express charge for an ordinary reserved seat, read for Tuesday 20 October 2026 (regular season), from 10:00 unless noted. Legs are separate tickets; a through ticket over the same route can cost less. Each trip is set against the pass length that gives every train its own day, up to the longest pass on sale. Fares that could not be read are left out, so those totals are "at least". The calculator link opens the trip with two nights in each city; change them to fit.
