JR EAST PASS: price, what it covers, and whether it pays
The JR EAST PASS costs ¥35,000 for 5 days in a row, one person, checked on 19 October 2026. One pass for all JR East lines since 14 March 2026: 35,000 yen for 5 days or 50,000 yen for 10 days, one person. It replaced the two area passes for Tohoku and for Nagano and Niigata. On the issuer's example (Narita Airport to Tokyo, Tokyo to Sendai, Sendai to Shin-Aomori, Shin-Aomori to Sendai, Sendai to Tokyo, Tokyo to Narita Airport), single tickets come to ¥52,820, so the 10 day pass saves ¥2,820.

What the JR EAST PASS covers
- All JR East lines (including BRT) and some lines of other companies. Places named on the official map: Tokyo, Narita Airport, Haneda Airport, Nikko, Aizu, Sendai, Sendai Airport, Yamagata, Aomori, Niigata, Karuizawa, Nagano and Matsumoto.
- Shinkansen: Tohoku Shinkansen, Tokyo to Shin-Aomori; Akita, Yamagata, Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen, JR East sections.
- The terms cover Shinkansen trains on JR East lines in the area on the map; Hayabusa, Komachi, Hayate and Tsubasa are all reserved and need a seat ticket. Green, GranClass and TRAIN DESK cost extra.
- Limited express trains: Narita Express, Hitachi, Tokiwa, Azusa, Kaiji, Fuji Excursion, Odoriko, Nikko, SPACIA Nikko, Kinugawa and SPACIA Kinugawa (JR and Tobu through trains).
- Other railways included: Tokyo Monorail; Aoimori Railway; Iwate Galaxy Railway (IGR); Sendai Airport Transit; Sanriku Railway; Hokuetsu Express; Echigo TOKImeki Railway (Naoetsu to Arai); Tobu Railway local trains Shimo-imaichi to Tobu-Nikko and Kinugawa-Onsen; JR and Tobu through limited expresses (reserved seats).
- Reserved seats in ordinary cars are included; the issuer states no number limit.
- New pass, first valid on 14 March 2026; it replaced the JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) and JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata area), whose sales ended on 13 March 2026.

Where each figure comes from
How the sums are made
Single fares are station prices for one person, fare plus limited express charge for an ordinary reserved seat, read for Tuesday 20 October 2026 (regular season), from 10:00 unless noted. Legs are separate tickets; a through ticket over the same route can cost less. Each trip is set against the pass length that gives every train its own day, up to the longest pass on sale. Fares that could not be read are left out, so those totals are "at least". The calculator link opens the trip with two nights in each city; change them to fit.
